Review: BREAKING HER (Love is War #2) by R. K. LILLEY

Blurb:

The epic conclusion to Scarlett and Dante's story.
Breaking Her
The Love is War Duet: Book Two
DESTRUCTION. BETRAYAL. RUINATION.
TRUE LOVE.
SCARLETT
He had done it again. Ravaged me. Burned me. Broken me.
Given me air, only to leave me gasping, writhing.
But then something changed. Something that terrified and excited me both.
Something that utterly destroyed me.
Something that made me whole again.
DANTE
Our love was cursed from the start. She didn’t know it, but I did.
All she knew was that I’d lied to her, betrayed her. Done unforgivable things. Unavoidable things. Yes, I had broken promises as surely as I had broken her heart. But, just as every war has casualties, and every lie has consequences–every bastard has his reasons.

"We'd Grown up as godless, savage creatures, believing in nothing so much as each other, and somehow it had always been enough."

I don't even know where to begin with this review, how do I find words to describe the words that so completely consumed me? This book absolutely floored me. It was not what I was expecting. I was expecting all of the fast paced excitement. The non-stop witty banter between Dante and Scarlett. I absolutely loved all of that about Breaking Him. It was fun and crazy and intense all the same, but it was, for me, a head first fall, in love, with the characters of Scarlett & Dante. And I was expecting more of the same, but that is not what I found in Breaking Her.

"We had words with whole lives attached to them."

What I found in Breaking Her was something much deeper. It all happened slower, a steady breakdown of walls and barriers, revealing answers as fast as my heart could handle. The harder I fell for these characters the more abuse they were dealt. It killed me, gutted me, but it was SO beautiful all the while. Two completely broken people, who completely broke each other only by loving so deeply as if they every had a chance to do otherwise.

"I'm tired of hating you," she said quietly, a world of regret in it.
"When all my heart has ever needed is to love you"

My anticipation over this book was no joke. I STALKED Amazon, for months I checked daily just wishing for a little green pre-order link. Stalked Mrs. Lilley's blog & Facebook pages. I literally SQUEALED with delight the day she revealed the cover for this book! I just have to say that, as always, she went above and beyond my expectations with this book.

Breaking Her had absolutely everything I had hoped for, ANSWERS, love, lust, hate, suspense, plenty of Scarlett Sass, plenty of Dante charm, and it revealed so much more about both of the characters, I fell harder for them then I even thought possible.

I highlighted like 2/3 of the book. I want to post them all here, but I'll just leave you with this last one,

"Love changes you. No matter how strong you are, it makes you stronger. No matter how weak you are it makes you weaker. No matter how hard you are to conquer, it will bring you to your knees."

REVIEW: SPARROW by L.J.Shen

Blurb:

Troy Brennan

Every Southie in Boston knows that name. The son of a dead mobster. The heart-throb with steel-blue eyes. "The Fixer" who can make or break you in this city.

Oh, and my new husband.

Sparrow Raynes

That's me. No one seemed to remember my name up until he barged into my life.
But then he caged me.
Kidnapped me.
And killed every chance I had to run away from the place where we grew up.
Put simply, Troy Brennan clipped my wings.

I have dreams, big ones, but I doubt he'll ever let me chase them. I have no idea why he decided to take me as his wife. But I do know this: pissing off this man will not do me any good. At all.

Sparrow is a standalone, full-length novel. It contains graphic violence and adult situations some may find offensive.

My Review:

This book was awesome! So unexpected. I had not had the privilege of reading L.J. Shen's work before this book, it was recommended by some fellow bookie babes so I thought I would check it out and from the very beginning I was so hooked!

Troy Brennan, holy shit what an anti-hero! He was a spectacular asshole. And he owned it to the fullest extent. This isn't one of those books where Troy is misunderstood and he eventually becomes super sweet and lovable. No, he makes no apologies for being a dick 100% of the time. Its who he is, who he always has been. So why do we fall so head over heels for him?

“If you think you’re going to give me trouble, think again. I invented trouble. I stir it, I mix it, I … fix it. Don’t try my patience, because you’ll discover I have absolutely none”

The book opens with a kidnapped Sparrow getting ready on her wedding.

“We weren’t a real couple, and this wasn’t a love story”

Sparrow is a badass. My new Book Bestie. I want to hang out with this girl every day. Have sleepovers, braid each others hair while we talk about boys, especially her's. ;)

Sparrow tries to hard to resist him, to hate him, she can not trust him or his intentions so developing feelings for him causes her a great internal battle.

“You can hate me and still love how I make you feel.”

This book had everything I LOVE: Suspense, Romance, Action, LOVE, Lust Passion, Hate, it was fast paced, high energy, it wasn't predictable, I spent a good portion of the book wondering which way it was going to go in the end. But I was so happy to be along for the ride!

Review: EASY VIRTUE (Virtue #1) by Mia Asher

In honor of Sweetest Venom's Release being right around the corner I wanted to post this review of Easy Virtue. This book BLEW ME AWAY!

BLURB:

Love is selfish...

My name is Blaire.
I'm the bad girl.
The other woman.
The one who never gets the guy in the end.

I'm the gold digger.
The bitch.
The one no one roots for.
The one you love to hate.

I hate myself too...

Everyone has a story. Are you ready for mine?

REVIEW:

What a beautiful, tragic, gut wrenching story. My heart was pounding, beating, breaking, and bleeding from cover to cover. Holy Shit, I need more, like now.

Blaire, Beautiful, Confident, Broken, Brave, Blaire, Oh how hard I fell for her. I wanted to shake some since into her more times then once, but there was something so amazing about being insider her head. Her thoughts and actions so unlike my own however I craved to live through her, wondering where she would take me next.

"I'm Selling My Soul, and the sad part is, I don't care."

Ronan, Oh sweet Ronan. He loves so truly, his heart so pure. He wants to give Blaire his whole heart but that's the last thing she's looking for.

and then there's Law, as much as I want to hate him I just can't bring myself to do it. He's all class and sexy as fuck, and he offering Blair everything (she thinks) she wants.

Blaire is at war with herself all through out this book. I wanted to yell and scream and tell her CHOOSE LOVE! Always Choose Love. This book was all consuming. I felt it in my heart. I LOVE Mia Asher's writing. This is a must read.

About the Author:

I am a writer, a hopeless romantic, a wanderer, a dreamer, a cynic, and a believer. And, oh yes...I might be a bit crazy - but who isn't?

I believe in happy endings however I know that not everyone is lucky enough to get one, but such is life. I think fine lines exist to be pushed and possibly crossed.

ARC Review, UNSEEN MESSAGES by Pepper Winters

BLURB:

“There is a message for everything. From handwritten to verbal, seen and unseen. Messages exist all around us.”

But what if you don't see?
What if you don't understand?
What if, by ignoring the message, your life is never the same again?

Estelle Evermore morphed from nobody to somebody overnight.
Galloway Oak put his past behind him and endeavoured to make his fortune using his trade.

Two strangers.
One plane.
Multiple unseen messages.

From sky to island, they find neither fame nor skills can save them. Stripped from society and left alone to survive the elements, the very task of staying alive outweighs all other needs.

Until survival turns to desire.
And desire turns to danger.

From New York Times Bestseller Pepper Winters comes a timeless love story answering the question of what happens when everything is stripped away.

REVEIW:

Within the first chapter this book had me going crazy with curiosity. Estelle's thoughts read as if her fate has already been determined. As a reader this gave me such an uneasy feeling as if the power had been taken out of my own hands. I felt myself praying for this to be a choose your own mystery book as one my one "Messages" started going "Unseen". Pepper Winters calls this book a SURVIVAL ROMANCE, I love that. While most love stories bring us to our knees in one sort of desperation or another, Unseen Messages is truly a story of Love Found under Life or Death circumstances.

Pepper Winters, I feel has a way to draw me into her stories to where I truly feel like I'm there. This book was no different. In the action parts where the shit totally hit the fan I could feel it, my heart beating faster the anxiety setting in my mind racing with possible outcomes of what would happen next. But then there were part where to pacing slowed. way. down. Being the genius writer that she is, I have no doubt that this was Pepper Winters' way of feeling the agonizing days stretch out. Feeling the stress, the unknown, the exhaustion. I could feel it all. Normally these would be major turn offs for me in a book, but while all of these feelings simmered the feeling of suspense and anxiety only grew. So while the beautiful slow pacing of the story took hold, I found myself turning pages with urgency seeking out answers to so many questions. I also felt like the quieter moments throughout this book allowed for many moments of self reflection. This book posed many questions that I pondered through out the story.

I loved the characters, I loved Estelle's strength and courage, and determination I loved her pure heart. And I loved Galloway's drive, his unwavering need to provide and protect all the while fighting an epic inner battle. Fascinating. Most of all I loved their undeniable pull towards each other.

This book was so different then any other book I've read. It was beautiful. Thought provoking, and suspenseful. Unseen Messages is a refreshing look at how the choices we make each day can effect our entire lives. Sometimes the only choice we are left with is to LOVE with our whole hearts, and endure to the end.

REVIEW: ARC of THIS IS LOVE, BABY (War & Peace #2) by K. Webster

Summary:

My War was over and I had lost. My captor reminded me I was nothing more than his pawn.
His strategy never changed…it was always me.

But what he didn’t know was that LOVE always wins.

In my War, I’d found not only peace
but LOVE as well.

I’d been through a battlefield with my War and LOVE was what brought us to the other side.
Our LOVE was beautiful and pure. Undying.

My captor thinks he has won this war. That I will LOVE him.
What he doesn’t know is this time, I’m the one with a strategy. I’m always thinking several moves ahead of him, my War taught me that.

I will outsmart him and find peace again.
This is a war I will win.
My LOVE will conquer all.

Warning:
This is Love, Baby is a dark romance. Strong sexual themes and violence which could trigger emotional distress are found in this story. Terrible, terrible things happen to our poor heroine, so you’ve been properly warned. This story is NOT for everyone.

ARC Kindly Provided by K. Webster in return for an Honest Review!

Holy shit, stop reading this review and go read THIS IS WAR, BABY! Right now! Quick! This is Book 2 in the War & Peace Duet (I believe its a Duet, unless K. Webster is going to bless us with a third book.) If you love books that shake you to your core, and absolutely gut you, then wait no longer, this is the series for you!

K. Webster has PERFECTED the art of the MIND FUCK. Seriously. In one hour of reading I will be reading and I will be angry, upset to the point that I can feel it in my stomach, scared to the point that I'm physically shaking, so heartbroken that I'm crying, and I'm like "Why the hell am I putting myself through this?!" And then, never fails, she goes and scrapes my heart up off the floor, brushes all the shit off shoves it back in my chest and makes it beat all over again.

With things like:

"How Many?" I question after what feels like a minute. His cheeks turn pink and he smiles sheepishly at me. "Nineteen blinks, fourteen breaths, and one big smile I haven't seen in a long time."...sigh

And badass stuff like:

"I'll spit on his grave and laugh all the way into the sunset of my own twisted happily ever after."

I absolutely loved watching Baylee go from sweet innocent high school virgin to a badass chick who will scratch and fight and claw her way to the man she loves. She is such an awesome heroine and I'll never forget her. It was an absolute THRILL to go on this journey with her. All of the shit she went through I FELT IT, I felt it in my core, in my heart, and I hurt for her. But I also felt empowered, inspired as she grew stronger.

I fell so damn hard for War. I just want to wrap my sanitized arms around him and never let go. :)

My mind is still racing, my heart is still pounding, but had to write this review now to tell you, read this series, start today, you won't be sorry!
